Cross posting

Stooooopid question w.r.t. cross posting.

I recognize that there are two types of cross posting – one in which
a whack of inappropriate conferences are included in the cross post,
and one in which several appropriate (or seemingly-appropriate-to-the
poster) conferences are used.

Sure, the first one is a problem, and is kinda like spam

What I’m wondering is, what’s wrong with the second? I think the current
news-server at inn.qnx.com is broken, in that it doesn’t allow you
to post to several newsgroups at once, nor reply to things that have been
posted to several newsgroups at once. (Or at least, it doesn’t let me
do that…)

If this were the case, then everyone would immediately see that the question
had been answered and could ignore or add to it as appropriate. Newsreaders,
as I understand them, would say “Ah, I’ve already seen this article in
group X, therefore I’ll skip it”, so that you’re not reading the same question
over and over again…

Or am I smoking crack?

Cheers,
-RK

I do think if you are announcing - say a new software port to QNX - that it
is appropriate to
cross post to multiple news groups where this new port is relevant.

Another example where I do find cross posting or reposting appropriate is if
you for
instance have asked a question and you are not getting any answers in the
news group
where you posted it, then after a few days it should be OK re-ask the
question in
another news group.

By the way, I ordered your “old” book (Neutrino 2) from Amazon and they
said it would take 6-8 weeks. So I paitently waited two months, at
which point the order no longer existed, as if it had never been
entered. Hmmm, you may want to have a talk with your publisher about
Amazon.

I am the publisher :frowning: Amazon is flaky. That’s why they’re no longer
listed on my website as a “here’s how to purchase”.

Is there an easier way to get it?

Absolutely! +1 877 727 7379 toll free (or +1 613 599 8316 international).
MC/VISA, operators are standing by! www.parse.com has the details.

It is yummy spam. I believe crosspost is OK but only for announcing… If post suppose to be
replied it is hard to handle the subject in different conferences.

BTW, Robert, which kind of crack do you smoke? My newsreader doesn’t seem to be such intelligent!

The russian online shop ‘books.ru’ works good  But they sell only russian edition of Robert’s
book and in field of exUSSR
http://www.books.ru/shop/books/22624
There is only one key moment with this shop. After you ordered the book you have to visit their
online chat and make noise “I need this book immediately…” In this way I obtained the book in
a month and two weeks (those two weeks I didn’t know I have to chat them ).

Cheers,

My crack comes in a “tin”
If I put in multiple newsgroups on the “Newsgroups:” line, it rejects it.

Too bad they couldn’t get “.rus” for the russian federation. Then it could have been “Books ‘R’ Us”

I tried to order your book from Amazon way back when it first came out. The
Amazon web page “REFUSED” to allow me to access their order page unless I
was using Netscape or IE. I was using voyager.

So I called their customer support number and tried to explain to them the
“bug” in their web page. Customer support “REFUSED” to take a verbal order
over the phone. They said that’s when the web page was there for.

I haven’t tried to look at Amazon for about two years.

There have been many issues over the years where I was not certain if
something was a compiler issue or an OS issue, or a Photon issue.

I have always said that cross posting IS APPROPRIATE as long as it is not
abused.
