there was never a 2.55 version…
the latest version is 2.21
the beauty of arcnet is that it is token passing which allows for some
determinism. the bad thing is that if a node doesn’t pass the token or
you have duplicate physical id’s (node #'s) then you will run into problems
as the network reconfigures itself.
that would be the first thing i would look at. in qnx2 it was netstat
that printed this.
you can also use nettest to check for thruput between nodes.
another thing to mention is that the corman cards were sensitive to the
isa bus speeds. if there is an option to drop the isa speed on the
compaq to something ~8Mhz that would be a good test.
on the node that prints out 2.55, if you do a ‘tsk in’ does it still
show 2.55? this can not be unless you are getting garbage on the wire or
someone has patched your os and written into the boot image with some
garbage.

Just curious…
Do you mean 2.55 or 2.15?
DEFINITELY 2.55
Does node 12 show itself as 3.15, or also as 2.55/2.15?
WHEN NET RUN FROM #12 SHOWS 3.21 atp
Do you have a poller running?
YES, ON NODE 1
Is the old node 12 disconnected from the network and/or powered down?
PHYSICALLY DISCONNECTED
Any chance you have two node 12s on the network?
NO CHANCE
Do any nodes boot off a server or node 12 or all from local hard disks?
ALL FROM LOCAL
Thanks Mike…

Hi there,
I am running a 12-node QNX2 system over arcnet using the usual Corman
cards.
I normally use node 12 as the remote diagnostic computer which is
located
around 100m away from the others. I am using active hubs. My normal PC
is
an
old DEC starion P166 which gives very fast response over the network and
can
see all other nodes, conversely all other nodes can see node 12. Using
the
net command I get all PC’s showing version 3.21 atp (which is normal).
Now here’s the problem…
I’ve just swapped in a Compaq deskpro P166 as node 12 to allow some
maintenance. The arcnet card looks OK and boots up in it’s usual manner.
If
I try the net command the OS goes very sluggish, sometimes taking 5
minutes
to scan all nodes. Most of the time it only picks up 2 or 3 other nodes
at
the most. Also, no other nodes can see node 12. Interestingly, when it
does
show other nodes the net command reports their OS version as 2.55
(instead
of 3.21 atp). I’ve tried swapping the HDD from the DEC into it but it
still
won’t work.
I’m kind of resigned to the fact that I’m going to have to bin the
Compaq
but if anyone could suggest anything here…
Many thanks,
Russ Bilbey
