building, packaging,....

Hi,

I’d like to know if it’s desirable to build our applications using
autoconf, automake,…?

Is it compatible with recursive makefiles?

If yes, I read an article in a Linux Magazine (France) about using these
tools but it’s not so clear.
Some errors occurs, about CC which is not found, exporting GCC=yes as
gnu explain doesn’t work, about VERSION, PACKAGE,…
The article talk about Makefile.am, it works, but gnu don’t talk at all
about these files.
But gnu doc in dated from 1998 ?!

Could you give us some explanations?

Thanks,
Alain.

Not really. They kind of live in different worlds. Either way is fine,
you just have to convert to the appropriate religion.
