Net.ether1000 not loading for Linksys EC2T PCMCIA

I have an NE2000-compatible Linksys Combo PCMCIA Ethernet Card model: EC2T
(http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?prid=92&grid=11) on a Toshiba
430CDT.

With the default “pcmcia.1” file, the “pin” command reports:
Sock Win Type Flags PID Base Size IRQ Base Size
DMA
1 0 Network C—I-±-------U None 0x320 32 7
2 Empty ----MF---------- None

After the following changes to “pcmcia.1”:
ports = 0x340-0x3ff (instead of 0x320-0x33f)
irqs = 11,12 (instead of 5,7,11,12)
the “pin” command reports:
Sock Win Type Flags PID Base Size IRQ Base Size
DMA
1 0 Network C—I-±-------U None 0x340 32 12
2 Empty ----MF---------- None

Both seem fine to me.

Now, after starting “Net &”, whether I enter

Net.ether1000 -v &

or # Net.ether1000 -i 7 -p 0x320 -v &
or # Net.ether1000 -i 12 -p 0x340 -v &
where appropriate, the network driver never loads and always reports:
Trying as 16 bit card
Memory Verification Failed, Exiting
Net.ether1000: INTIALIZATION ERROR 10
Net.ether1000: INTIALIZATION ERROR 04

What could possibly be the problem?

Thanks.
