UT will not run (for me anyway!)

After tracking down the executable in
/pkgs/repository/…UTDemo/System/UnrealTournament, I found that it
was reporting the errors :-

Localize Error (MisingIni)
Localize Error (History)
Abort (core dumped)

I have a TNT2 graphics card in a Celeron 400 - so I was expecting to
configure it to run with software. I ran ‘soft.sh’ to replace the INI
file, but no improvement.
Is there an Environment variable I need to change or something?

For next time, how do we tell what a ‘Launch->etc’ command invokes, and
where does the stderr go?

cheers
Lance

try /usr/games/UTDemo/

You’ll probably have more luck :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thanks - I copied it there from the /pkgs/…etc directory, and now it
runs. Not sure why the pkg-installer didn’t do that for me.

I think I need a much faster computer though - Its unplayable on my Celeron
400. It runs in a photon window at 640x480, and I tried turning the texture
detail down to low. Not sure if it would help if it could run full screen
(bypass photon maybe?) - it looked like it was going to on startup, but it
just ran in a window.

Not to worry,

cheers

You shouldn’t have had to copy it…probably a bug in the package (cdm
reported one as well, could be related).

try a 320x200 window (yeah it’s small but it should render at a
reasonable rate :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )

Can you say “software rendering”?

Yes, and your point is ? People aren’t idiots here. I wasn’t
complaining,
I was stating the obvious. And that it might not help him a bit to get
a faster processor as long as it is the cpu doing the rendering.

I mean, are you one of those people who goes around thinking that
everyone on the net are idiots and needs everything explained? Why
not expect people to be the opposite, that they actually knows stuff
and what they say is with that knowledge behind their statements. I
promise that you’ll start to seeing things in a totally new light if
you choose to do so.

The net is full of crap messages from people who thinks that they are
the only ones who knows stuff as it is, why fill it with more.

You can try to go into the Package Manager , and chooose ‘Restart
Package filesystem’ That should probably get the files be displayed in
the correct dir.

QSSL should start selling V3 cards =)
