We are using the QNX RTOS6 on ElanSC520 processor based board. We want to
boot QNX from PCCard with IDE interface and we are going to not use a
traditional PC BIOS on our board, but write our own startup code and IPL.
Could anyone give me some suggestions about that. I have these questions:
Does the QNX use any of BIOS service routines in process of booting from
hard drive: in boot sector MBR(master boot record) code, or partition boot
record code? If it does, is there a way to avoid that?
What products, or packs, could you recommend for solving our problem?
Does the board support pack of x86 should be used in this case and how it
can be useful?
Where can I get detailed information about what is included in x86 BSP?
Do we need to by additional license to receive this BSP? We have a QNX RTP
license.

Yes, it does. QNX uses BIOS interrupts in both the primary loader (MBR) and in the
secondary loader (bootsector).
If it does, is there a way to avoid that?
I believe there is. I hope someone will answer rest of your questions.
Cheers,
Eduard.

If there is a BIOS, then you can use the BIOS.
If there isn’t a BIOS, then you can get around it, but is it worth it
the dev cost?

You will need the x86 BSP, it may be useful to boot w/o BIOS.

It could be used. You would have to look for yourself
to see if it will be useful for this problem though.

Your sales rep and/or FAE should be the best bet.
The BSP is extra, it’s not included in the standard SDK.
You may also want to look at vendors such as Arcom’s “starter kits”.
Not sure if they have a 520 version, but I think they’ve
done some work in this area as well. They will want to sell
you a board though
