System backups

I am looking for some ideas on how to best backup a stand alone QNX 6.2
system. Backing up over the network is not an option. Although CD-RW or
DVD-RW would be nice, it doesn’t appear to be very high on QSSL’s agenda.
What are other people doing?

Some form of removable media with a standard IDE/ATA or SCSI interface seems
to be your best (only?) option. This leaves you with choices like:

  • DVD-RAM
  • LS-120 “SuperDisk” (now available in 240 MB)
  • magneto-optical (MO) drive (typically SCSI)
  • removable hard-disk (in carrier)

We have used MO and LS-120 drives in the past but generally find the
removable hard-disk to be the best. There is a product we use that gives you
a pair of standard IDE drives in a RAID0 configuration with hot-swap and
automatic re-build. This unit has a standard IDE interface so it is
transparent to the operating system.

Has anyone had any experience with cdrecord in cdrtools-2.0? There appears
to be a configuration for QNX and it is supposed to support both SCSI and
ATAPI devices.
