Photon Autostart

In the first time that I booted QNX it asked me about if the Photon will
start automatically… I’d choose no… but now I want it starting… How
can I set this?

Delete /etc/system/config/nophoton and it will boot up in photon.

Just a thought. Wouldn’t it have made more sence to have a file called
/etc/system/config/startphoton. If it contained ‘yes’ you could auto start.
If it said ‘no’, you would not autostart. If it did not exist, or
contained garbage, you could ask.

To me, this is 6 of 1, halfdozen of the other.

The difference, to me, is that in an initialized system the file will always
exist.

It is very difficult to find which file disables starting phone on your
system if it currently doesn’t exist.

There are many config files that don’t exist in RTP unless you happen to
have already configured that option. Again, it just makes it harder for
someone to figure out what to do unless they already know what to do.

I really don’t see how having a file in some system specific place in /etc,
with content or not, makes it easier to understand things.

Best thing to do is read the init script in /etc/rc.d/ - that is where the
check for the photon and qnet files exists. Plus you get a good feeling for
how things startup.

However you do it, up-to-date documenation should make it obvious. Looking
through init script files does not rate as documentation in my view. I’ve
been constantly frustrated by the lack of QNX documentation to the extent
that I’m wondering if it is worthwhile developing anything for the
platform at all.

Chris, you’ve been a great help but really most of the stuff you’ve told
me should have been in the “getting started” section of the manual.

I’m following this discussion. I’ll make sure that it gets into the docs.
