Hello,

if this means purchasing a new hard drive. Thanks in advance.

Yep. You can install QNX to any empty partition so if you have space on
your existing hard drive for another partition or add another hard drive,
you’ll have no problem. If you use Fat32 instead of NTFS, you can even
install QNX to a file in your windows hard drive and boot to it. Probably
not an option with XP though.
cheers,

Or, if you have something like Partition Magic, you can shrink your
XP partition and use the freed up space for the QNX partition.

Well, that was very successful :-\ I resized my NTFS partition by 5 gig and
freed up 2 gig some how, not five. Several attempts at installing QNX onto
either an unformatted partition or a fat32 partition or even not allocating
a partition proved very unsucessful. Every time the QNX installer told me
that there was not a free partition available with more than 60mb free, even
though I could clearly view it in the partition table. How can I install
QNX onto my pc? it would be nice to try it out but I am not having much
luck at all, anyone else had the same problem?
Nick.

Well, I take back the last statements. I managed to start installing QNX
onto an empty partition. But I am having different problems now that are
well over my head, It crashed on first boot while generating help files or
such like, I say crashed but it actually just sat there doing nothing for
about 10 minutes, no disk activity and such like. So I restarted and tried
booting in again, this time it hung on the first step. I then tried a third
time and managed to get it to boot into the console or whatever it is
called, forgive me but I am very new to it. Anyways, after logging in as
root I tried launching photon (“i presume its called photon? windows stylee
program?”) by typing “phin” and it had more error messages, no luck Im
doomed, any ideas on how to cure my ignorance and get this working?

Try starting Photon with the ‘ph’ command, this is the most common way
to start the GUI.
Strange that your woes appear intermittent. What kind of hardware are
you using?
