newbie trying to start sshd

I am running 6.2 from the free non commercial download.
Logged inn as root.
Runs fine.
Installed sshd from QNXPUB100.
Installation completed ok.

sshd -h outputs the sshd options.
sshd -t gives following:
Could not load host key: /opt//etc/ssh_host_key
Could not load host key: /opt//etc/ssh_host_rsa_key
Could not load host key: /opt//etc/ssh_host_dsa_key
Disabling protocol version 1. Could not load host key
Disabling protocol version 2. Could not load host key
sshd: no hostkeys available – exiting.

Obviously, I don’t have no /opt//etc/ssh_host_** keys.
What has been installed there tah is ssh related is:
ssh-genkeys.sh
ssh_config
sshd_config

Do I have to create the host keys manually myself?
If so what do I put in there?

I have at http://www.openssh.com. The home page comes up, but most other
links like Manual and FAQ fail.

Sincerely,
Conrad Weyns
Stokke, Norway.

You will want to run the ssh-genkeys.sh as root in /opt/etc. That will
generate your keys for you. On 6.2.1’s Public CD the location has been
corrected and these files live in /etc/openssh/.

Thanks. I discovered the generator after a while. The keys ended up in
/root. It took me a while to understand that I had to move them to opt/etc/
though. But then, that’s life for a newbie! Alltogether, I find that other
config files live in weird places…

I had a fight with samba because of this. The html docs are in
/opt/swat/using_samba. The docs are good but path info is not qnx relevant,
or so it seems. The samba config file, smb.conf must live in /opt/lib/ !
There is nothing else samba related in /opt/lib. I don’t get this I am
afraid.

Apache httpd.conf lives in /opt/conf/.
I think I am going mad

Anyway, thanks for answering and for the 6.2.1 tip. (I simply downloaded
QNXPUB100 (452Megs of it) from the Qnx site 3 days ago.

And you are going mad! And we have fixed most of these issues in 6.2.1,
although some may slip thru the cracks. The biggest changes are that
/opt/etc and /opt/var are gone and everything is properly in /etc and
/var. The layout for apache and samba have been fixed.

Ah! Sounds good.
But, should I get the 6.2.1 Public CD or is it also downloadable?
My 2 main sources have been the qnx m.n.c download and the qnxpub100.iso
third parties download.

By the way, the system requirement on the qnx page are:
PIII-650 or better
128MB RAM
1.0 Gig Disk Space

I am running it quite comfortably on a:
Pentium Pro-200 (Old Dell Optiplex GXPro)
64MB RAM (!!!)
3.2 Giga hd.

(Extra 256 meg in on its way. Mozilla is not happy with my hardware. Not
that I need it. First time launch it simply quits after a while. Second time
it hangs the entire machine … hehe, I thought such things were not
supposed to happen on unixy systems

The Redhat Linux 8.0 kde and gnome desktop kneeled before the gods on this
hardware…

The only thing going for the Redhat installation which took hours compared
to minutes for qnx was:

  1. My ms usb trackball worked without any intervention from my part.
No luck at all under Qnx 6.2. Tried all devu- options. Back to using a
    standard mouse which sucks.
  2. ssh was preinstalled and worked straight out of the box.
  3. easier to find out where things live
Apart from this, any activity at all simply turned into a swap galore good
for testing harddrives but in all fairness, it didn’t crash.

This is good fun, cheers,

Good morning,

6.2.1 has not been released yet.

Please note that the system requirements are applicable if you want to run
the Eclipse IDE, which is part of QNX Momentics 6.2 Professional Edition.

With regards to your USB difficulties, please check that your BIOS has “USB
Legacy Support” turned off.

Failing that, when you have the stack running, can you please post the
output of “usb -vvvv”?

Ok. First things first. I have dropped the old (64/200) Dell, scrapped a
Win2000 server box and moved Qnx over it. It’s a 4 year old 450Mhz PII,
based on a AOpen board. It’s the best I can do right now. Qnx is booting on
hd0 (3.2 Gig disk as master). There is 80 Gig free on hd1 (not yet formatted
for qnx - one thing at a time
It’s got a brand new ASUS V8170DDR/&4MB Ram AGP video board which qnx
manages to drive using svga at 1024x768, 16-Bit High Color, 60Hz refresh. It
works ok, but there is no way it runs accelerated - I have seen what this
board can do on this hardware under Win2000 server. But enough about this, I
am not concerned with Qnx graphics at this moment nor do I find that board
mentioned in the Supported Video Drivers.

Now, back to my USB issue. I have disabled “USB Keyboard Support” in the
bios. Whether or not that actually turns of the two onboard usb1 ports and
does any good at all, I don’t know. I have a brand new usb 2 (usb 1
compatible) NEC pci card with 4 usb connectors installed (it works great
under Win, Mac and Redhat Linux). I am not sure whether Qnx supports this
card. The trackball is a Microsoft USB Trackball Optical (Intellipoint).
It’s by far the best fit for my clumpsy hand and I have six of these running
on Win, Mac and Linux boxes.

This is what I can get out of following the qnx usb help documentation after
a fresh boot.

usb -vvv

usb: unable to connect to USB - No such file or directory

devu-ohci -v -V &

[1] 794664

USB (OHCI), v1.10, v1.01, May 2 2002

usb -vvv
usb: unable to connect to USB - No such file or directory
[1] + Done devu-ohci -v -V

Only once, did I after starting the devu-ohci manager see the trackball’s
light come alive. And it would light up everytime I touched it but the
cursor would not move. The usb -vvv command then reported:

USB (OHCI), v1.10, v1.01, May 2 2002

Control, Interupt, Bulk, Isoch, Low, High

Nothing more.
But not anylonger, that was a one time lucky only…

I have also tried all sorts with devu-uhci, devu-mouse. Basically screwed
around with anything that the docs seem to make plausible:-)

I have a fixed ip address, I can let you log in as root using ssh if you
want. You should even be able to reboot qnx on that machine because qnx
refuses to turn it off. It will turn off the screen but not the machine and
after a while it’ll reboot. I have to physically pull out the mains plug
because qnx has disabled the on/off button, or so it seems - unless this is
some bios option that I have overlooked. Anyway, it wasn’t like this before

other
config files live in weird places…

I had a fight with samba because of this. The html docs are in
/opt/swat/using_samba. The docs are good but path info is not qnx
relevant,
or so it seems. The samba config file, smb.conf must live in
/opt/lib/
!
There is nothing else samba related in /opt/lib. I don’t get this I
am
afraid.

Apache httpd.conf lives in /opt/conf/.
I think I am going mad >

Anyway, thanks for answering and for the 6.2.1 tip. (I simply
downloaded
QNXPUB100 (452Megs of it) from the Qnx site 3 days ago.
/conrad.
