QNX 6.1 and modem types

Greetings all. I am VERY new to QNX…at least in its true form. I have
been a loyal and consistent user of the QNX Demo for more than a couple of
years…solely because it makes my older junk better than what Windows can
provide. But, I have recently installed QNX 6.1 on my 200 MHz K6. Sadly,
it has a Winmodem…but what types of modems does this OS “see”?

Also, the media player built into 6.1 has problems with certain audio types.
It plays mpeg movie clips well…but are there any limitations?

Thank you, ans sorry for the newbie questions.

Any external modem should work just fine. I prefer external modems
anyway.

But there are many internal modems that do also work. Real modems (as
opposed to WinModems) will cost about twice as much and should have a
real UART chip 16x50 or compatable. But don’t be fooled by the phrase
16550 compatable. Insist on seeing the chip or at least make sure it
is returnable.

Good luck.
