Connecting to modem

I’m trying to set up the dialer to use a standard (non-Win) modem. It does
know to try /dev/ser3, but with the terminal turned on, it appears not to be
listening (or replying).

Is there some other configuration that needs to happen? If so, where is it
documented?

If not, I noticed that the Class is listed as “Communication (Unknown)” - is
there some other problem?
