Bill,
Please post the boot.build file or if you just want to email it to me
personally, that’s fine too.
Thanks,
$Kevin

All of the magic of startup is done by diskboot and programs that it runs.
What I did is to take out diskboot and do all of the things that it did
manually in the startup-script in the boot image. It’s been a long time
since I did that and I’m not sure that I could justify everything that I
did. I do believe that my system boots up faster by doing exactly what
needs to be done instead of trying to poll all of the hardware to decide
what should be done on this occasion of bootup.
The bottom line is that it is not for the faint of heart but if you want
I’ll post my boot.build file.

Andrew–
Your approach worked well !!
I am now running W2K, QNX 6.1 & QNX 6.2 from boot magic.
And like Zoltron said, I have to pick which .diskroots, /pkgs to mount
at
boot time.
Hopefully, Bill Caroselli can give me tips on writing a custom boot
image
(nudge-nudge).
One hitch I ran into though was probably because of my setup.
I have two physical disks in the box.
Disk 1 has 2 partitions, (boot magic on FAT 16 & w2k on NTFS)
Disk 2 has 2 partitions, (QNX 6.1 & QNX 6.2) (with more unpartitioned
space
left, for Linux, Solaris x86).
Once I change the fstype on Q6.1 (disk2), my boot magic was gone
(disk1).
I
thought
that was weird. Luckily, I had the trusty Boot Magic rescue disk to
restore
the MBR on disk 1.
Once I was back in win2k (default boot on disk 1) I uninstalled and
reinstalled Boot Magic.
Used the advanced features to find my partitions and made menu items for
each OS again.
I’m back in business now…
Thanks to all who help me out on this one!

Yes this is possible but…
Since QNX 6.x all use the same partition type (79) if you have a
partition
install of 6.1 and then try to install 6.2 as well you will not be
able
to.
The installer will ask you to delete your existing QNX partition
first.
This
is because you can not have two type 79 partitions. To get it to work
I
use
the following method but you’ll be using it at your own risk, make
backups
of your data before you do…
- First boot into 6.1 login as root
- run fdisk /dev/hd# , where # is the disk you want, most likely its 0
- find your type 79 partition and make note of its start and end
cylinders
- use the change command and enter 78 as the type, re-enter cylinders
and
save
- now put your 6.2 cd in the drive, reboot and do a partition install
( it
should not ask if you would like to delete an existing qnx partition)
- If you use the QNX boot loader your should be able to boot from any
of
your bootable partitions now, I cant tell you if Boot Magic will work.
- Each time you boot you will be asked which file systems you would
like
to
mount, it not hard to figure out which is which.
hope that helps

Thanks…
Should I be able to install 6.1 & 6.2 in neighboring partitions on
the
same
drive?

The 6.2 NC iso image is bootable.

Actually – Let me ask another question:
The ISO image I burned to CD-R, should that be bootable??
Thanks!

Hello-
I read the readme.txt from the iso image once down on CD.
The file refers me to the Download area for information on
installing
onto a new partition. I can NOT find this information in the
download
area.
Can someone point me to the documentation on installing QNX
6.2
onto
a
new
partition???
TIA,
$Kevin
