Installing QNX 6.2

I want to test QNX 6.2 on a laptop that does not have a built-in floppy or a
built-in CD. The only way to attach a CD or floppy is with USB. The laptop
is running W2K currently on a single FAT32 20GB partition. It does have 2
PCMCIA slots and it is possible to boot DOS/Windows from a PC card ATA flash
disk, such as a SanDisk or from a PC card SRAM disk for example.

It is my understanding that you cannot boot QNX 6.2 from a USB floppy or
from a USB CD so what do I do? If you can provide some careful detailed
steps that would be greatly appreciated! I did a lot of development for 3
years with QNX 2 from 1987 through 1990 but have not used QNX since 1990.

thanks

I am writing an article for the issue. It will let you install QNX through
any medium you say  but have been busy with another projects (fs-ftp and
QFS Reader for windows) for sometime.

I can send you preview version, please contact me by email.

It depends on your laptop. Some machines CAN boot from USB devices.
If yours came with w2k, the “recovery disk” should have some way to boot
if HDD was completely corrupted.
(minus bonus point: “contact your local retailer for recovery”)

steps that would be greatly appreciated!

If you need “careful detailed steps” you’re more than likely to
be badly stuck when in trouble; the best advice is to
replace the HDD (so corruption won’t impact) and fool around a bit.

Installing non-QNX things (Linux, NetBSD, whatever)
should be a good starting point.
