6.2 install help

hiall!

I have a sony VAIO PCG-FXA59 laptop running WinXP Home. I have two
unused partions - a Linux Ext2 and a swap partition. I’d like to install
6.2 here. If I disable PnP and boot from the CD (burned from the iso
image; yes it contains files) I never get past “building help database”
(or whatever that message is). I’ve just noticed that if I open the CD
under WinXP, there’s a choice to create a bootable floppy to install to
a partition. Is that the way to go? Are those partions useable for this
install, or do they need to be some other format?

TIA!

Recomended way is to delete linux partitions. You need just free space
(unpartitioned) on hard disk. If you boot from CD (make a boot floppy if
there is some problem to boot from CD), installator will ask how many free
space you want to use for QNX partition. Other questions are also very easy
to answer
Good luck!
Eduard.

TIA!

Hi, ed1k,

I was trying to do the “F2” install from the CD - why would the
filesystems or partitions on the HD make a difference? As far as I know,
even if I were trying to install directly to the HD, it never got far
enough into the install for any of that to make a difference anyway…

Trying it again tonight, after deleting the Linux partitions.

QNX installation program will not use existing ext2 partition or any other
existing partition. It allows you to install QNX into free space on disk in
order to have many OSes on a PC. Also, installation program is unable to use
free space covered by extended partition (logical drives). Without hacker’s
trick, QNX partition can be only primary partition. I assume you want two
partitions on a disk, first one for Windows and second one for QNX. There is
nothing wrong and you are able to have two (up to four) primary partitions
on a disk.
Good luck.

OK, I’ve solved my partition issue, and now have a 10.6GB unallocated
Primary partition. If I boot from the install CD, and select F3 “Install
to ne partition”, the installer copies a few files from the CD, restarts
the machine, I pick the correct partition from the Boot menu, and it
does exactly what happened when I tried the F2 install before - it gets
to the “Generating helpviewer database” (OWTTE) and hangs…

Any ideas?

Try press SPACE just after “Hit ESC for altboot…” and
different booting modes.

I tried many different combinations, but with no luck. I’ve recycled the
partition, and will try again ASLD… One problem with the boot loader
is that it apparently prevents me from reaching the BIOS Setup - where I
would turn off PnP if I were planning on booting into QNX… I wish
this were all much more straightforward; developing apps is hard enough
without having this much trouble just installing the OS.
