Dell Latitude LM (Pentium I 166 Mhz Laptop)

Dear QNX Group,
I have an old Pentium I 166 MHZ LM series laptop that I am trying to
install QNX NC 6.2.1 onto successfully. At the current time, I am only
using the touchpad, power saving is turned off completely. The problem is
that after installation, randomly the laptop will lock up hard, nothing will
fix it except a complete reboot. This unacceptable. This problem has
gotten so bad that I can’t even use the laptop for any period of time as the
issue appears to be completely random. I fixed it in 6.2.0 (I believe it
was fixed) when I applied the QNX NC 6.2 Patch A, but it appears on the QNX
website that the patch was only intended for 6.2.0, not 6.2.1 so I have been
hesitant to apply it to 6.2.1. Is this the proper way to solve this
problem?
The other problem I am having is that it appears that my PCMCIA cards
only work in Slot 1, not in Slot 2. My PCMCIA modem will work in Slot 1
perfectly, will be detected in Slot 2, but won’t work. My 3COM PCMCIA
10Mbps network card is detected in Slot 1, and accesses the network (well,
mostly, there is still something wrong, but I am not sure it is hardware
related…yet). The 3COM card is detected in Slot 2, but cannot access the
network at all. How do I get both PCMCIA slots to work, as having a network
adapter and a modem installed at the same time is the way I need to have the
laptop configured.
Please help me with these problems with QNX. I would very much
appreciate it. Thank you.

Sounds like an interrupt problem. How are you starting devp-pccard?
Try something like: devp-pccard -l, ss -m &

Joe

Thank you Joe, that is fantastic. Coincidently, I went home last night
and started putting together all of the factors causing my laptop to
lock up. At the last minute I realized that the only simularity between
the lock-ups and the non-lock-ups was having a card in the top PCMCIA
slot in the laptop. I pulled out the top PCMCIA card and the laptop
didn’t lock up all night long.

Well, what I did last night solved the problem in the interm, but it is
unacceptable for the long term. I appreciate the reply with the
devp-pccard command-line solution, but it leaves me with two questions:

  1. How do I discover the proper IRQ’s to use for the PCMCIA controller
in my laptop in order to fill in the parts of the command-line setup?

  2. Once I get the command-line setup working, how do I go about making
it a permanent part of my QNX startup?

Thank you for all of your help, it is very much appreciated.
