QNX Public Newsgroups

As a member of the QNX Community, we would like to inform you about some
upcoming changes to the QNX Public Newsgroups.

As a result of the launch of the new QNX Website mid-month, the QNX
Public Newsgroups will be streamlined to create a better framework for
sharing,
managing and accessing information. Here’s a sneak peak at the list of
new newsgroups that will be created at news://inn.qnx.com/:

qnx.newuser - Installation, configuration and administration of the QNX
Neutrino or QNX Momentics environments

qnx.rtos - Writing resources managers, and general discussion around
the QNX Neutrino RTOS

qnx.gui - Creating graphical applications within a GUI environment, such
as Photon or PhAB

qnx.development_tools - Self-hosted graphical development with the
Eclipse IDE and cross-hosted development on Solaris, Linux, or Windows

qnx.ddk - Writing device drivers for scanners, video card, optical
mouse, etc

qnx.porting - Discuss migrating applications from QNX4, VxWorks, PSOS,
or Linux to QNX Neutrino

qnx.bsp - Discuss building an image, flashing a board or using a BSP

qnx.qnx4 - General QNX4 Discussion Group

qnx.3rdparty_product_announcements

Existing qdn.public newsgroups will be deprecated before the end of 2003.
However, for your convenience, these newsgroups will still be available
in a read-only archive.

If you have any questions, send email to newsgroup_admin@qnx.com

Deprecating as in throwing away will be such a waste.

Won’t you please take the time and transfer the existing content
to the new groups…
With the QNX knowledgebase deprecated before it be
really useful, the newsgroups are
about the only thing around constituing
a “community knowledge base”.

As we said in the original message, all the groups will be archived and
available for read, so information will not be lost.

I see two newsgroups missing; the equivalent of “qdn.cafe” where we can
just shoot the breeze, and a QNX 2 newsgroup – surely QNX 2 isn’t
totally dead?

Cheers,

Thank you for your suggestion Rob. Your observation about the qnx.cafe is a
good one. This newsgroup has served our community well in fostering positive
communications for active members around the globe. We’d be happy to
continue this tradition by maintaining this group. We appreciate your
input.

For read how and where?

I’m thinking that the old articles must be
populated into the new NGs.

Is that what you are saying?

Great! And the QNX 2 newsgroup? If you look through the existing qnx2 newsgroup
you’ll see that there is still some traffic there periodically…

One of my clients still has a few QNX2 sites running (managing ATM’s for
banks & credit unions). They will be replaced during next year (2004).
