Removable media with capacity at least 100M

We are looking for a replacement of ZIP drives used for manual collection of
data from QNX4 oustation to MS Windows based central system. Can somebody
advice another solution working with QNX4 ?

Thanks in advance,

Andy

DVD-RAM is probably your best bet. It should work as a standard IDE/ATAPI
device. We’ve never tried it with QNX4 but I believe others have had some
success.

LS-120?

Just checked the Fujitsu site. Seems that the 1.3 GB DynaMO 1300 SCSI
itself has also the power supply.

First, why not use network based transfer? TCP/IP works well between QNX4
and Windows.
Second, I like magneto-optical drives. Suitable SCSI card, check the card
works on QNX4, and Fujitsu magneto-optical drive
(> http://www.fujitsu.com/services/computing/storage/mo/> ) and you have
capacity between 640 MB and 2.3 GB depending on the drive and media you
use. And it’s rewritable. The drawback is the price but it really works.
You can use external drive to manage with one drive, but then you need to
install it into a box where you also have the power supply. SCSI cards
you need for every computer you need to change files with. Unfortunately
USB is out question for QNX4, I think.

LS-120?

LS-120 (SuperDisk) has been discontinued by Imation since May 2003. I don’t
know if any other manufacturers are still supporting it but I certainly
wouldn’t recommend it for a new application.

Assuming you don’t have the QNX system on a network, and assuming you have
the use of a Windows laptop, these are two solutions that have worked well
for us:

  1. Put a network card into the QNX system. Connect a latptop to the card
using a crossover cable. Collect data from QNX onto the laptop using ftp
over this connection. Connect laptop to Windows machine via the LAN that the
Windows machine is on, and transfer data to central system using protocol of
your choice. This is very fast.

  2. Install Kermit on the QNX system. Connect laptop to the QNX machine via a
serial null-modem cable. Use Kermit (supported by the terminal emulator on
the Windows side) to transfer data from QNX to the laptop. Download data
from laptop to central system as in (1). This is relatively slow, so not as
suitable as (1) for large amounts of data.

In either case, we make a record of the checksum and the byte count of the
data file before moving it to the laptop, to ensure integrity upon data
delivery.

Kingston DataPak (2 GB and 5GB) drive.

http://www.kingston.com/products/pccard.asp

Also need to get the IDE ATA adapter from Magic Ram.

http://www.magicram.com/ataadapter.htm

You can use both QNX and FAT 32 file systems on these drives. (and there
are other similar drives out there that will work).
