I was wondering if the orinoco driver allows Dynamic Grade Shifting?
(Does transmission speed reduced automatically depending on signal/noise
ratio? or does it
actually only work at 11Mbps?)

The firmware takes care of that actually, not the driver. The driver sets
it up to allow for all possible transmition levels (2Mbit…11Mbit).
