Mario, I am running 6.30 under VMware 4.51 and have the following
observations.I am running on a Dell Precision M60 notebook ( Pentium M 850Mhz, I Gig
Ram,
7200 RPM 60 Gig harddrive), no floppy.
From the time I press the start virtual machine button until I have a
login prompt take 90 seconds. During the “Detected EIDE scanning for
devices” message the boot process indicator disappears after some time and
it isn’t for quite sometime after that that the system boots.Typing “sin”. It takes a full 10 seconds before I get any output.
“ps”
is also slooooow.
Are there any configuration tweaks that you are aware of that could help
with these issues.
Check if there isn’t any other process under the host OS that is using the
CPU. I wonder if the power saving feature of the laptop could affect the
behavior of the VM.
Thanks

thanks, that it.

I disabled my CD-ROM and that has made a significant improvement in boot
time. It looks like the driver is spending a long time looking for media in
the CD. Are there any options to tell the driver to time out quicker?
sin/ps still take 10 seconds to generate a listing.
