Intel vs Broadcom

Want to get my chief software engineer a Dell; only choices for network are
Broadcom 570 and Intel Pro 10/100. Any luck for anyone out there making this
work?

I have used the Intel 10/100 cards.
Check which shipset your Intel 10/100 card will use to make sure.

I believe that they have used more than one chipset in those cards.

Broadcom 5705M (I have it in my Dell) does not work. Intel probably will.

Oh, I forgot to mention. It is Latitude D600. Video works (with 6.3.0 and
radeon patch applied) and sounds does too. Wireless (apparently Intel
device) does not work and broadcom does not…

The chipset for Intel is the PRO 10/100 VE…

Intel PRO 10/100VE; Intel says it’s the 82562 chipset

It does not work for me.

However an interesting way around it is using VMWare (aka Microsoft Virtual
PC these days). It will emulate any network card as DEC21140 and that way
you get any wireless card supported by Windows to ‘work’ on QNX running
inside VMWare. You also get any sound card emulated as SoundBlaster16 (will
work too) and video cards will be emulated as S3 (but sadly, QNX will choke
on that so you will have to use VESA driver).

I am curious does anyone know how to use devg-vmware.so driver? I tried
without much success. I suspect it probably requires image with vmware.boot,
but I could not build it because of missing ‘vmware.stub’. Of course it
would help a bit if there was any documentation

oops, i have been corrected that VirtualPC is not VMWare… the rest applies
to VirtualPC.

In need of vmware maybe?

That explains the inconsitencies

VMWare emulated an ether 2100. I have not been able to use FLEET (QNX4)
with wireless card, I beleive wireless card don’t support changing MAC
addresses on the fly. Curiously I was able to get TCP/IP working but
strangy ARP on other machine showed the MAC address to be that of the
physical wireless card and not the MAC address given to the virtual network
card.

With Vmware and 6.3 it’s auto detect.

I tried

I was right that somebody bought VMware, it just wasn’t Microsoft. It was
EMC
