QNX For Robotix

All,
I have a general question regarding the suitability for using QNX as the OS
for small autonomous robot. This main goal for this project is to be a self
learning exercise on QNX. I am planning on using the NC version (low
budget). In short here is an overview of what I want to do:

  • Hardware is a Winsystem PPM520 (SBC, Pentium 133Mhz) with 32MB RAM, 32MB
    Disk On Chip.
  • Wireless network (802.11B) via PCMIA adaptor
  • Interface to a “Robot I/O” PC-104 board. (I know I can do this part) to
handle the low level I/O aspects of the robot (PWM, Pulse measurement, etc)

Can I using the NC version create required boot image for the DOC and the
trimmed down requirements (to fit on the 32 MB DOC) from the full install.
I just read from another post that the “embedding tools” were removed from
the NC version. By embedding tools, I took that to mean the tools create
something that will boot from a DOC, etc.

Joe

well, that’s true for the latest version (QNX 6.2.1) but you can
always use the old QNX 6.1, which has everything you need.

Frank,
Where would I find QNX version 6.1? I just looked on QNX web site
(http://www.qnx.com/developer/download/updates/) I could find the current
download of v6.2.1. Any help would be appreciated.

Frank,
What’s the difference between v6.1 and v6.2.1? In the OpenQNX download
section, I have versions 6.1 and 6.2 and 6.2.1, is there a release notes
document somewhere that describes what changed, what was removed, etc?

thanks again for your help.

Joe

There is lot of small things that changed and 2 major things - 6.2 has
removed everything but x86 and ARM from free download and moved to new libc
(Dinkum).
