OS filesystem image and embedded systems

Hello,

I need some simple explanation of OS filesystem image (created using mfiks)
and embedded system (created using mkefs). What’s the difference between
them and what’s the use of OS filesystem image? Is this the image that
starts all system at the beginning? Maybe newly installed systems has
default image?
Thanks for answers.

Best regards,
Darius
