Announcing: BFE (Big File Extensions) for >2GB files under

Alpha announcement to give people something to play with over the weekend.

I’ve just created a resource manager that allows you to have >2GB files
under a standard Neutrino partition. Read all about it and download the
executable at:

http://www.parse.com/samples/manpages/bfe.html

Realize that this is a “compiles here and runs as root with the two files
I tested it with” kind of release.

Cheers,
-RK

Nice idea,

would it be possible to set the size of the spill files (e.g. 650MB, to be
able to record them on CDs) ?

Internally, the file size needs to be 2^N. So, I could do 2^29 (512MB) instead
of 2^30 (1GB), but then you are wasting space on the CD ROM… There’s a POSIX
utility called “split” which you could run on the big files and split them into
arbitrary-sized files, which you could then put onto CD with minimal wastage…
