DVD-RAM locks up

We’ve got a little problem with DVD-RAM-Drives:

Sometimes the drive locks up, when a DVD-RAM-Disk is inserted,
it couldn’t be read/fdisk’ed or anything else.

‘sloginfo’ repetitively issues:

lun=0, cam_status=c4, scsi_status=2

When the tray is opened manually, the blocked task are released.

Looks, as if the drive needs some kind of reset …

We are using 6.2.1 actually …

Any ideas?

I first had an LG GMA-4020B and it had bus locking issues with my VIA
686B southbridge on all writes. The LG GSA-4040B I have now doesn’t
seem to have that issue.

I’ve not noticed the drives themselves ever complain and slog is silent
under QNX 6.3.0.

The SCSI sense errors do occur under QNX 6.2.1 but only for the first
minute after bootup, they don’t keep repeating.

With the GSA-4040B I get around 4 MB/s reads and 600 KB/s on straight
mounting. If I use commit=none when mounting the disc the write speed
increases to 1 MB/s. I believe the optimal write speed, for this 3x
drive, is 2 MB/s with verify enabled. Interestingly, the GMA-4020B
defaulted to verify disabled and as such had full 2x read and write
speeds of around 2.5 MB/s.

Correction …

… and 600 KB/s writes on straight mounting.

Thanks for your hints!

We made a firmware upgrade from A102 to A111 and the problem seems to be
gone )
