Sorry for cross-posting. But maybe this usergroup is more appropriate for
this question.
Is there some place where I can get “vedit” for QNX 6.3 and set it to be the
default editor in my application builder?
I appreciate your suggestions

Technically, this is not cross-posting – you just posted two similar
articles to two newsgroups…

From a quick look at http://www.vedit.com, vedit is only available for
Windows and DOS, and the DOS version isn’t even supported.
I am not familiar with “vi” and dont wan’t to use “ped” to edit my source
files. What kinds of editors are available on QNX6.3? I use “vedit” on QNX
4.2.
Thanks

There is the eclipse C/C++ editor. It is quite functional.

There is jed which can recognize either emacs or vi key commands and has
context sensitive color coding and there is workspace which has
context sensitive color coding. Both can be downloaded from the Qnx site.
Thanks

jed is pretty nifty (does syntax highlighting and whatnot), and jove is
a nice, small, EMACS-style editor…

I’m working with SciTE. It has syntax colouing and can be used as an
lean IDE. It works with XPhoton which is included in the binary XFree86
distribution. Both are available at http://www.sf.net/projects/openqnx

I think there is NO GOOD editor for QNX6.
I use Vedit under QNX4 and it’s my dream to use a similar configurable
editor like Vedit.
I don’t want to use editors which need several weeks to learn and which
only have built in key commands.
I downloaded emacs but if i try to open it, it says that the DISPLAY
environment variable is set incorrectly. What does this environment variable
have to be set to?
I appreciate your suggestions

Sounds like you’ve got an X11 version there. You’ll need to start
XPhoton, and set DISPLAY to localhost:0.0…

Would I have to install the free XPhoton that is available on the QNX
website and then start that while my present version of photon is running?
Thanks

Yes, that’ll run a “rootless” X server on your system, using Photon for
drawing.
