phftp in 6.3

I just tried to install PhFTP onto my 6.3 system from the 6.21 repository.

It appeared to install OK. But when I tried to run it it hangs.
I get the window frame but nothing is drawn inside the window.

pidin reports that it is Received blocked on 1.

Can’t I use PhFTP in 6.3?

What must I do to make it work?

There isn’t much you can do. The author statically linked the app with
6.0 photon libs (libph.so.1). I belive that the shlibs where updated
between 6.0 and 6.3 to allow for continued support, but since the
code is stuck in the app, the best you can do is ask to have the app
rebuilt against the latest version of Photon.

One other way to put it is 6.0 binaires aren’t always upward compatible.

Correct, if one goes out of ones way to make sure that binaries are not
compatible. But you really have to go out of your way to do it. Which
the PhFTP author has done (on purpose).

I have already asked about this, apparently it will not be updated to
work on 6.3.

Will the author of PhFTP post the archive.
This is too useful to not have working.

Don’t know, guess you’d need to ask, I agree, this is a cool program I
played with under 6.2.1, and decided to register, but could not, due to
me using 6.3 these days.
