PCMCIA

Setup is

PC/104 CPU card from Lippert CPU is Geode.
PC/104 PCMCIA card 1 slot from EuroTech.

EuroTech card has worked with a different CPU card model.

Pcmcia.generic detects the SanDisk and allocated resources as expected,
upon starting Fsys.eide the SanDisk is detect but it takes a while for
/dev/hd0 to appears. Once it doesn appears cp -V /dev/hd0 /dev/null blocks
for what seems like ever.

It sounded like a problem with interrupt, I tried other interrupts, ports,
even Pcmcia.generic memory windows to no avail.

Any pointer would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like an interrupt problem. What is the output from ‘pin’? What
version of QNX4 are you using and what command line do you use to start
Fsys.eide?

I’ll post it later I don’t have access to the machine at the moment
But from memory it said ATA port 0x320 interrupt 7. Interrupt 7 is my
current
config but I tried many interrupt (editing pcmcia.cfg)

What version of QNX4 are you using

Latest of everything (Patch G). I tried with pccard with the same result
and what command line do you use to start

Fsys.eide?

Fsys
Fsys.eide eide -a0x320 -i7

I have to start Fsys cause I boot over network and it’s not started

Ok I’ll try that, but I have little hope. This is working fine with a
different CPU model.

Remember that the Geode has builtin controllers on the chip (audio/video
etc) and can cause conflicts with the windows/ports. I had a laptop with a
similar symptom (no network access, but card seemed to be ID’d).

According to the doc there is no conflict… But then again doc could be
wrong

I’ve seen it where a Geode had all serial ports working fine if started
after Photon was running, but if started before Photon, then
some failed. Turned out to be the that the Geode in question tickeled
certain registers (that were in use by the serial ports), in order to init
the graphics engine, which konked out a few serial ports.

Just another thing to keep in mind.

There is definitely something weird going on with the Geode chip.

There is a BEEP coming out of the sound card when certain register of some
unrelated hardware is written to…

Thanks Erick.

The problem was the PCMCIA carier module had jumper/pad on the back that
had been cut by someone else and only interrupt 11 was allow to go through
ISA bus ;-(
I had not tried interrupt 11 because it’s use by some PCI device. I went in
the
BIOS and reserve IRQ 11 for Legacy device, setup PCMCIA config file to use
interrupt 11 and all is well.

Thanks for the help everyone.!
