Problem with 3COM 905

We are using a 3COM card and Net.ether905 4.24N on two hosts. The
systems are connected to a Netgear switch. It happens sometimes that the
connection between the host and the switch start at 10 Mb/s instead of
100 Mb/s, sometime it degrades spontaneously to 10 Mb/s after some hours
of correct operation.

The cable is about 3 meters long.

I found many error like below in the traces:

Jan 21 11:54:26.158 2 00004870 1 (2160) 905 ( rx) first descr bit not set
Jan 21 11:54:26.158 2 00004875 1 (2165) 905 ( rx) out-of-window
collision → something’s broken
Jan 21 11:54:26.158 2 00004876 1 (2166) 905 ( rx) bad CRC

Is there a new version available for this driver ?

If yes, where can I find it ?

Thanks in advance,
Enrico

This generally means you have a bad cable or bad hub. I would try
replacing them first before looking for an updated driver.

Rick…

Net.ether905 4.24N is the latest version of the driver. If you are seeing
out of window collisions, you most probably have a network problem. You can
start the driver with -vvv and you will see if you get any network drops by
Link down and Link up messages on the console. All the driver does when a
link goes down is to tell the PHY to re-negotiate the link.
