QWindows

Hi,
Is there any chance we can get a copy of the source code to QWindows
(considering we have paid for for it and it is considered a dead or
unsupported product). We still use it and there are several shortcomings
that would be nice to fix.
Also , does anyone have any advice for porting a Qwindows rich
application to QNX6? (bearing in mind that qwindows allows you to change
the screen formats without having to recompile the application).

Best Regards

Hi Darel

What do you mean by changing screen formats? Do you mean resolution?
I.E. 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 You can do the same in Photon.

I would say, just bite the bullet and re-do you application using Photon.
Don’t try to port it per-se. Photon is a completely different beast than
QWindows and QNX6 is a different beast than QNX4. There are many new
features that you can take advantage of in QNX6. Take a few weeks to get
familiar with QNX6 before you start any serious work.

By that I mean you can create graphics description files which you load at
runtime, but still have dynamic data on them (by way of tags). This means
we can have an application, and run it with different looking graphics
(which is vital for us) without recompiling the application everytime
(which is also important for us). It’s a bit like loading html pages in
your browser I guess but alot more powerful. (Yes i’m sure there is some
kind of photon + web pages solution but thats not the way we want to do as
we have alot of dynamic data).
There is a tool called tilcon that can do a similar thing in photon.

Sadly we dont have the budget for that, we have a 200,000
SLOC Qwindows rich application.

OK. I did not know that.

With photon you can have a label widget with an image and you can change
the image at run time. But you need code to do that.

I guess you can also have a data base of widgets and open a different data
base to accomplish the same thing your trying to do. Much simpler than
changing the image on each widget.

Hi Darel,

What sort of options would you like to have added? We still do updates
(custom drivers mostly) to QWindows every now and then. I am pretty sure it
isn’t considered “dead”, however your sales rep might be able to clarify.

Best regards,

Erick

QWindows isn’t own by QNX it’s own by Frank Folnick, I once has a talk with
him about porting QWindows to QNX6. If you have the budget he maybe willing
to sell you the source.

I did try to contact him but all the email addresses for him I could find
drew a blank.
Any idea where he is hiding out these days?

Thanks for the help guys.
