X11R5 and Nvidia cards

I’m having difficulty finding a functional display driver for X11R5 ( forced
to use X11R5 ) that is compatible with Nvidia TNT or better cards in 16 bit
depth. We do have the Scitech driver, however, it’s only producing 8 bit
depth modes on multiple TNT based cards. The Scitech gatest utility checks
out fine for 1024x768x16, however, when I attempt to crank up X11R5 using
that driver, it fails saying it can’t find a screen.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

We’re forced to use X11R5 with our application. =( It would be a major
undertaking to convert everything to X11R6, so we’re planning to move to
Photon on Neutrino at some point.

hm, my understanding is R6 is backward compatible with R5.
you should be able to recompile your source without a problem.
even if you don’t have the source, you can still run R6 as a
server for better graphics card support, and run your R5 client
as usual. The X11 protocol is the same.

Is there a QNX 4 port of X11R6? If so, we’d probably look into that route!
=) When we checked a few years ago, there was no port available.

Thanks!

Thanks again for the info!

I’ve managed to get XFree86 running, however, when I try to run our old
apps, it gives me:

Error: Can’t open display: :0.0

Is there a simple solution to this? Did I fail to set something up properly
in X11R6?

Thanks!

If you still have problems, let me know (liug@mama.indstate.edu).
I haven’t updated the XFree86 for QNX 4 for a few years since there
hasn’t been any need. Hopefully the graphics card support is still
good enough.
