Net.via

Dear all,

What is the last version of the Net.via driver?
Is there any known problems on that driver? (incompatibility,…)

Thanks
Regards
Michele D

The latest version of the Net.via driver is 4.25G. Are you having a problem?

That’s the one I have.
Yes, I have some problems. My IP connection blocked sometimes (after several
days of good working) and I have to reboot the machine to have it back.

I read this message in the netinfo

“(3018) via ( tx) RESET requested & granted”

Do you know what this message means?

Thanks
Regards
Michele

This can be caused by either a PCI bus error or by an excessive collision
abort. If the machine is not on a busy network, then I would say that the
reset is caused by the PCI bus error.

Thanks a lot!

Could this kind of message create the IP connection lost?

Is the Net.via driver 100% compatible with an on board ethernet chip (VIA
ethernet chip VT6103 on an EPIA800 motherboard)?

As this is an ethernet chip and not a ethernet PCI card, can we speak about
“PCI bus error”??

Thanks for your help
Michele

Yes we can, because no matter how the chip is connected (whether it’s

directly soldered to the MB or sitting on a separate board in a slot) it
is still on the same PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) bus.

Tony.

Ok
But then, what is the possible reason that could cause “PCI bus error” when
using an ethernet chip?

And as I asked before, could this type of error generate the lost of IP
connection?

Thanks
Michele

Did you check the BIOS settings like “PCI latency” and friends? (I’m not

sure if they affect QNX4 though)

Not sure.

Why not?! If some connection-critical data was lost because of an error -
one might expect having some troubles in TCP/IP stack…

It’s been years since I’ve worked on QNX4. but I can assure you that
things like PCI latency DO matter. More so in the early days of PCI v2.0
when many/most PCI firmware implamentations were buggy.

I do not have any PCI latency on the VIA BIOS.

I have “CPU & PCI bus control”. And here are the value I have

P2C/C2P Concurrency : Enabled
Fast R-W Turn Around : Disabled
CPU to PCI writte Buffer : Enabled
PCI dynamic Bursting : Enabled
PCI Delay transaction : Disabled
PCI Master 0 WS Write : Enabled
PCI#2 Access #1 Retry : Disabled

What do you think?
Thanks
Michele
