Experimental Proc X

Given the high amount of interest I’ve received, I’m posting an
EXPERIMENTAL version of Proc32 for 4.25. This version (denoted as
version X) supersedes version O, released in QNX4.25 Patch G. Since
this is an EXPERIMENTAL build, it goes without saying that it isn’t fit,
nor licensed for ANY kind of production or commercial use.

In the archive is a release note (changes), install note and cksum file
to verify the integrity of the binary.

I’m looking to get some extra miles on this, so any feedback is welcome
(though I can’t promise fixes or response times etc).

Cheers,
Adam

Thanks,

I will start testing it ASAP.

If everything goes well, is there any “date” when it will be released (for
production use)?

No date yet, since there has been no feedback. Can’t put the cart
before the horse.

Relay() and priority float/boost are still working correctly on our test system... No other issues to report. <\feedback>

Is now a good time then, Adam

Don’t worry - you’re not the only person needing this release. There is
a lot of interest in getting this released ASAP.

I think the Patch H version will be released soon. As I red in the
release notes, this version of Proc32 solves the “mysterious process
terminating problem”.
We have applications running for months without any problem, then
terminating without leaving any message on the console, especially
when the process spawns other processes or uses files open via the QNX
network.
I have red about this problem in many QNX forums, but no idea how to
solve it.
Till releasing Patch H we will test Proc32X cautiously in industrial
enviroment

Adam,

How’s the release ETA looking for this?

Still no problems to report with our test system running Proc32X. BTW,
although the test system doesn’t (normally) get exercised as intensely
as our production systems, it is a mirror of what runs on production.
There are something like 580 processes, 40 vcs and 80-90 timers running
full time, including traffic on dual fleet networks and a separate
TCP/IP network interface. It’s all been running smoothly and
uninterrupted since Feb 24, 2005 when I installed Proc32X.

Beta Proc32X is working fine for me for some time (uptime of the test server
is about 3 weeks).

It’s approching 2 and a half months since “the fix” was made… any news
on when this will be made available for production release?

Still no problems to report with the test version Proc32X.

Hi Rob,

I’m not ignoring you, just trying to find out information from the right
people in between other tasks. I’m doing my best to have some sort of
definitive answer ASAP.
