It wonā€™t be really that useful until it lets me zoom in enough to check
if Iā€™ve forgotten to turn my headlights off.

And what good is it in a blizzard, or at night? Wonder where they get all
those cameras?)

OK, I admit I was lyingā€¦ I walk to workā€¦ My house is just off the
edge of that picture.

The satellite imagery is pretty, but their map data has some of the
lakes on the Quebec side misnamed.

e.g. ā€œLac Poisson Blancā€ is called ā€œLac Oharaā€. And, some lake that
isnā€™t ā€œLac Ste. Marieā€ is called ā€œLac Ste. Marieā€, while ā€œLac Ste. Marieā€
doesnā€™t exist on their map data.

(My usual ā€œstress testā€ for maps is how well does it deal with cottage
country up towards my parentsā€™ cottage.)

Well maybe if youā€™d stay in the city like a civilized person you
wouldnā€™t have that problemā€¦

  • Unix? Theyā€™re probably not even circumsized. Savages.

Now that you mention it, has anyone found a really good map page for
Canadian maps?

Actually, google maps is fantastic for canada.

Try ā€œ175 Terrence Matthews, ottawa, onā€ in http://maps.google.com. It
actually gets it even though I didnā€™t put ā€˜Crescentā€™ and I mispelled
ā€œTerenceā€.

cheers,

Kris

Well, itā€™s fine for the parts of Canada that have concentrated people.

But, you know, most of Canada is wildernessā€¦

I guess what Iā€™m looking for are those small towns that spring up in the

middle of nowhere.l

I chuckle when I look at some Yahpp maps. You can see 10,000s square miles
of Canada with a single pixel rendered on the screen.

Heh, like Mapquest they are using map data that is over 40 years out of date
for the area where I live. Better no maps than maps that are just plain
wrong.

The picture of Ottawa is from last summer. The are building a condo across
the street from my house and you can see the crane in the open lot, they
only tore the old building down summer 2004.
