It won’t be really that useful until it lets me zoom in enough to check
if I’ve forgotten to turn my headlights off.

And what good is it in a blizzard, or at night? Wonder where they get all
those cameras?)

OK, I admit I was lying… I walk to work… My house is just off the
edge of that picture.

The satellite imagery is pretty, but their map data has some of the
lakes on the Quebec side misnamed.

e.g. “Lac Poisson Blanc” is called “Lac Ohara”. And, some lake that
isn’t “Lac Ste. Marie” is called “Lac Ste. Marie”, while “Lac Ste. Marie”
doesn’t exist on their map data.

(My usual “stress test” for maps is how well does it deal with cottage
country up towards my parents’ cottage.)

Well maybe if you’d stay in the city like a civilized person you
wouldn’t have that problem…

  • Unix? They’re probably not even circumsized. Savages.

Now that you mention it, has anyone found a really good map page for
Canadian maps?

Actually, google maps is fantastic for canada.

Try “175 Terrence Matthews, ottawa, on” in http://maps.google.com. It
actually gets it even though I didn’t put ‘Crescent’ and I mispelled
“Terence”.

cheers,

Kris

Well, it’s fine for the parts of Canada that have concentrated people.

But, you know, most of Canada is wilderness…

If it was worth going to, they’d put a roof over it and bug screen
around it.

I guess what I’m looking for are those small towns that spring up in the

middle of nowhere.l

I chuckle when I look at some Yahpp maps. You can see 10,000s square miles
of Canada with a single pixel rendered on the screen.

Heh, like Mapquest they are using map data that is over 40 years out of date
for the area where I live. Better no maps than maps that are just plain
wrong.

The picture of Ottawa is from last summer. The are building a condo across
the street from my house and you can see the crane in the open lot, they
only tore the old building down summer 2004.

I tried my home address, and I seem to have moved from Ottawa to
Arnprior. I hope my wife isn’t trying to tell me something…
