We were there. Running QNX.

We went past many of the obstacles and didn’t crash,
as some other teams did. Several breakdowns (none due
to QNX), but really, our vehicle just couldn’t see out
far enough to go fast.

We spent about $300K. That wasn’t enough. The big
teams are now spending millions and have direct engineering
support from auto companies. It’s getting to be like NASCAR.

We’ll be making the driving software available under the GPL,
able to run on QNX 6.21NC, so others can play with it.

Every year the level of competition increases, along
with the cost of participating.

So, is it “game on” for Team Overbot/QNX 6.2
and the next DARPA Grand Challenge?

The DARPA Grand Challenge is over. DARPA got a
winner, and they’re done with this project. There
will be no more in this series.

We’re closing down Team Overbot. But the vehicle, and
the software, go to U.C. Santa Cruz, where it will be used
for further autonomous vehicle work.

It’s been fun using QNX. Thanks, everyone.
