I would not be so pessimistic.
I’d try to use the Net.fd driver and connect it to a /dev/tap compliant front end.
Sounds too easy, but I’m sure - it must be possible.
The only problem is: Tcpip must see the Net.fd at the start-up, it is impossible to add the driver and alert Tcpip about the new device later on.
