What does QNX63 field license cost?

Hello,

What may be an approximate cost of QNX 6.3 license for one
unattended field unit? I mean PC-104 box running CAN and serial I/O
and TCP/IP transmission?

I’m asking here, because my local salesman says 303 euro is a minimum,
and it does not get any cheaper. Is he really right?

To be perfectly clear: I’m not asking for some trade secrets to be
revealed here, and I do not expect bounding shipping quotes. Just give
me some rough numbers please, if You can. Thanks.

Hello,

depends on the type of license, but I would expect it to be much cheaper …

We use Runtime License Agreement, we don’t use CAN.

Come-on, David, that doesn’t answer his question! He’s wanting to know the 6.3.0 pricing for one-off quantities directly from QSS. Everyone knows it’s cheaper for bulk orders and everyone knows there is a markup for local support. No one likes to be ripped off.

Ideally, the complete list would be posted. This would also inherently provide the missing list of what modules there actually are.

Now that I’ve given David an earful I’ll just say that 303 euro seems an okay figure given that the CAN support is prolly your expensive part. Third party modules tend to be the costly bits as the firewire boys can testify to. Get your Rep to itemise the price by module.

Sorry, I don’t actually know the values. I know base-price for
training, but not for other stuff.

Yeah, that would make things easier.

What kind of license have you asked for?

We use RLA, they are cheaper. Contact www.becom.sk

I did not ask for any specific type of license. I do not know what
types of licenses are available. I could not get any printed or
web-link document with clear layout of possible solutions and prices.
All what I read or heard was call us, fax us, mail us - we will give
you a quote. So I called the dealer (Quantum corporation in Poland)
and explained my needs:

I have a developer seat 6.3 SE.

With a developer seat you are able to build your specific run-time
environment for your target systems. For such a specific run-time
systems you have to buy licenses from QSSL … and you have a specific
(module oriented) price to pay.

If your target systems are x86 based, you could buy one of the
predefined standard x86 run-time system on a CD for 303(?) Euro.

I have a developer seat 6.3 SE. I have written small program which on
my developer site works. Now I have to put the binary in small
unatteneded box and place it in some electric switching equipment rack
and put it to work. How much do I pay for the core QNX runtime for one
installation, and how much for possible a few more?

Ask your dealer for RLA and select only modules you need (from my point of
view you need only core and filesystem), it will be much cheaper…

The replay was 303 euro for each and every one.

I could not believe what I was told, so I called them again and asked
whether it really was the cheapest variant, and whether there were
some modules to possibly be excluded from the license or some another
type of license to be bought.

The answer was again 303€ for each runtime package.

So here I am asking stupid money questions

This kind of license can only be sold by a dealer together with a piece
of hardware!

But “bobik” can build his own version of run-time system and buy then a
modul specific licens from his dealer.
