QNX4 application on a new Dell computer

Hello all-

My application has been working well on standard Dell computers for many
years.

I have recently purchased a new Dell Optiplex 320 and have lots of problems
getting it to work. They are:

  1. The only keyboard available is a usb keyboard (no DIN connector). After
I boot the computer, I get in to console QNX and start typing commands.
After several lines of commands, the keyboard seems to “get behind” on keys
typed. When I type “abc”, I see “ab”, then after I type “d” I see the “c”,
    etc. Only rebooting fixes this.

  2. The hard disk is now a SATA disk. When I start Fsys.atapi, it conflicts
with the network driver and both quit.

  3. For some reason, the only PCI slot that works is the 2nd PCI slot.

Any suggestions???

HPs DC7700 CMT works a bit better… you could try that computer instead (if
getting another computer is an option) otherwise I don’t think it’s looking
good. All four PCI places work, and it has a PS2 keyboard adapter.

For SATA disks, IDE Emulation is still required, my experiences of
Fsys.atapi against SATA are that it basically doesn’t work (does it promise
to support SATA native?).

There is some USB support for qnx4 now (see www.qnx.com myqnx account qnx4
updates) Not sure how mature it is for keyboards, but devu-kbd is
included… its probably just a matter of starting io-usb and devu-kbd (only
for Photon and not QWindows) supports only 4.25. Im surprised you got the
keyboard working at all if its based on usb? or is there some kind of PS2
emulation…

I must replace an old damaged PC (HP d530 CMT) by a new one.
I’ve installed QNX 4.25 on a HP dc5100 MT. All runs OK except the video when
photon starts (even starting photon using ph -s)

Have you runned photon in the DC7700 CMT? Which photon version and wich driver?
Thanks

Hi,
We dont use the inbuilt VGA interface on the DC7700 we use a PCI VGA card
that has the old trident chipset.
(We also use QNXWindows not Photon) but the same advice applies.

I’d love to see new QWindiows/Photon support for the built in intel VGA
devices as gr.vga doesnt work with them. I do have QWindows drivers for the
i830 built in chipset though.
