installation problems neo-magic & yamaha sound chip

hi,

yesterday i tried to install qnx rtp 6.1.

under 6.0 the neomagic graphic card was recognised and
installed correctly. under 6.1 however it is only recognised,
the first boot tells me, that the resolution is not ok 600x800x4,
if i change to 1024x768x(16,24) then the graphic output hangs,
even when i just click ‘test’.
after the second boot, i can see the graphic card setup, i see
vga, vesa, vesa 90, neomagic, neomagic 90.
nothing else than vga works and this only under 600x800x4.

what’s the problem? in the internet i see that the driver hasn’t
changed from 6.0 to 6.1?!

second, the yamaha sound chip (thanks for the driver!) does
not work correctly: it plays just the first 500ms or so and
repeats that, independent of mp3 or wav files. i must kill
the processes, the media player does not react.

i have a sony z600ne, pIII, 128mb ram. tried bios non-p’n’p os,
didn’t help.

what to do?

thanks a lot

ramin

hi,

yesterday i tried to install qnx rtp 6.1.

under 6.0 the neomagic graphic card was recognised and
installed correctly. under 6.1 however it is only recognised,
the first boot tells me, that the resolution is not ok 600x800x4,
if i change to 1024x768x(16,24) then the graphic output hangs,
even when i just click ‘test’.
after the second boot, i can see the graphic card setup, i see
vga, vesa, vesa 90, neomagic, neomagic 90.
nothing else than vga works and this only under 600x800x4.

what’s the problem? in the internet i see that the driver hasn’t
changed from 6.0 to 6.1?!

second, the yamaha sound chip (thanks for the driver!) does
not work correctly: it plays just the first 500ms or so and
repeats that, independent of mp3 or wav files. i must kill
the processes, the media player does not react.

i have a sony z600ne, pIII, 128mb ram. tried bios non-p’n’p os,
didn’t help.

what to do?

thanks a lot

ramin

Please post the output of pci -vvv on the newsgroups.

Thanks

E.

Hi Ramin,

Thanks!

Could you please try the latest pci-bios from developers.qnx.com
and post here if it helps or not.

Thanks

E.

Hi Ramin,

Could you please post (in text) the output of pci -vvv

Thanks

E.

hi,

yesterday i tried to install qnx rtp 6.1.

under 6.0 the neomagic graphic card was recognised and
installed correctly. under 6.1 however it is only recognised,
the first boot tells me, that the resolution is not ok 600x800x4,
if i change to 1024x768x(16,24) then the graphic output hangs,
even when i just click ‘test’.
after the second boot, i can see the graphic card setup, i see
vga, vesa, vesa 90, neomagic, neomagic 90.
nothing else than vga works and this only under 600x800x4.

what’s the problem? in the internet i see that the driver hasn’t
changed from 6.0 to 6.1?!

second, the yamaha sound chip (thanks for the driver!) does
not work correctly: it plays just the first 500ms or so and
repeats that, independent of mp3 or wav files. i must kill
the processes, the media player does not react.

i have a sony z600ne, pIII, 128mb ram. tried bios non-p’n’p os,
didn’t help.

what to do?

thanks a lot

ramin

sir,

i am not really sure how to do this, what i have done is:

downloaded pci-bios at developers.qnx.com/.../fixes

and changed the version that i found in /sbin

rebooted, and: nothing changed.

ist that ok? or do i have to rebuild bootfile?

cheers,

ramin

Well you could slay pci-bios then restart it spcifying the path
to the newer one

slay pci-bios
./whateverpath/pci-bios &

Then start Photon.

E.

hi,

i only have the standard boot image
that directly runs photon after start.
while running photon i started a term
then slayed pci-bios and started the
new one. afterwards i went into graphics
setup - same problems as before.

maybe you can send me a boot.build
that is standard but doesnt go into photon?
or, well i dont know.

ram

Hi Ramin,

Regarding the graphics, could you please run the following
script located here:

http://staff.qnx.com/~emuis/files/photon2/utils/grafxscript.rtp

Save the file to your system then as root make it executable:

chmod +x grafxscript.rtp

Then as root (exit out of Photon if it is running) run
the script and send us the file it creates.

Thanks

E.

hi e.

well, i was away for a while, now i’m back.
unfortunately the link below doesn’t work.
i don’t know why.
that’s my first problem, the other, more trivial
one is, that i don’ actually know how to leave
photon. obviously i can’t simply leave it by using
the start menu at the lower left corner. so:
how do i do it?

thanx

ramin

You could exit to text mode from “Welcome” window. Look careful at radio-buttons and other buttons
(I guess the Tab key helps to navigate). Press Shift-Ctrl-Alt-BackSpace in order to leave Photon.
But if you did phlogin it returns to “Welcome” window.
You could create a dummy (empty) file named nophoton.
/etc/system/config/nophoton
Then you boot into text mode after reboot.

Type
#ph
to launch Photon from text mode.

Hope it helps.
Best Regards,
Eduard.

hi ed1k,

well there are no radio buttons, there’s only
the shutdown and the login button.
anyway, the nophoton hint helped, thanx
still don’t have acces to the script in the web

Hi Ramin,

If my memory serves me, you could click on shutdown and then should be the three ways:
Exit to text mode
Reboot computer
Shutdown computer

Cheers,
Eduard.

thanx a lot,

the script itself did not really work,
i had to remove the 2>/dev/null lines
another problem was, that crttrap did not write
anything to the textfile, just

/usr/photon/bin/devgt-iographics -dldevg-neomagic.so -I0 -d0x10c8,0x0016 -VV
/usr/photon/bin/devgt-iographics -dldevg-vesabios.so -I0 -d0x10c8,0x0016 -VV
and wrote one file, i think it was graphics-modes

the script didn’t compress the .gnfo files, so
i took them to win and zipped them there
u will find this zipfile attached.

i hope, it gives you the information that you need, anyway.
it would be really cool to start using qnx6.1. i’m
really hot to write my first own programs for it.

cheers ramin

hi ed1k,

well there are no radio buttons, there’s only
the shutdown and the login button

Hi Ramin,
.
If my memory serves me, you could click on shutdown and then should be the
three ways:
Exit to text mode
Reboot computer
Shutdown computer

Cheers,
Eduard.

hi, havent heard anything for days,
any new insights?
ok, ok, i know you have a lot of other
things to do, i’ll shut up!

cheers

thanx a lot,

the script itself did not really work,
i had to remove the 2>/dev/null lines
another problem was, that crttrap did not write
anything to the textfile, just

/usr/photon/bin/devgt-iographics -dldevg-neomagic.so -I0 -d0x10c8,0x0016 -VV

/usr/photon/bin/devgt-iographics -dldevg-vesabios.so -I0 -d0x10c8,0x0016 -VV
and wrote one file, i think it was graphics-modes

the script didn’t compress the .gnfo files, so
i took them to win and zipped them there
u will find this zipfile attached.

i hope, it gives you the information that you need, anyway.
it would be really cool to start using qnx6.1. i’m
really hot to write my first own programs for it.

cheers ramin

Hi Ramin,

 It is busy

Did you do a freah install of QNX 6.1 or did you upgrade? Also
the script you used, try running it as root and it should work
properly.

Thanks

Erick.

hi,

i de-installed 6.0 and got the fresh complete 6.1.

indeed, i ran the script as root, for some programs it
didn’t find the path, but more over it had problems with
the '2>/dev/null ', i don’t know why.

i didn’t change the standard bootscript. it’s completely
fresh from the internet.

cheers

ramin
